Annekathrin Kohout, geboren 1989, studierte Germanistik und Kunstgeschichte an der TU Dresden, Kunstwissenschaft, Medientheorie, Philosophie und Ästhetik an der HfG Karlsruhe und Fotografie an der HGB Leipzig. Bis 2015 arbeitete sie am ZKM | Karlsruhe. Von 2016 bis 2022 war sie Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Germanistischen Seminar der Universität Siegen, wo sie im Mai 2021 über den Nerd als Sozialfigur promovierte. Neben ihrer Tätigkeit als freie Autorin ist sie Mitherausgeberin der Buchreihe „Digitale Bildkulturen“ im Verlag Klaus Wagenbach sowie der Zeitschrift POP. Kultur und Kritik. Seit 2022 ist sie Mitglied des Editorial Bords des internationalen „Journal of Global Pop Cultures„. Ihr jüngstes Buch „Nerds. Eine Popkulturgeschichte“ erschien im Januar 2022 bei C.H.Beck. Als Gastdozentin unterrichtet sie regelmäßig an verschiedenen Hochschulen und Universitäten.
Annekathrin Kohout (born 1989) is a German writer and researcher with a background in German language and literature, art history, media theory, philosophy, aesthetics, and photography. She earned her degrees from TU Dresden and HfG Karlsruhe. Kohout worked at the ZKM | Karlsruhe until 2015 and then served as a research assistant at the Department of German Studies at the University of Siegen from 2016 to 2022. In May 2021, she completed her PhD on the social figure of the nerd.
Aside from her academic work, Kohout is a prolific freelance writer, co-editor of the „Digitale Bildkulturen“ book series published by Klaus Wagenbach, and co-editor of the journal POP. Culture and Criticism. Since 2022, she has been a member of the editorial board of the „Journal of Global Pop Cultures.“
Kohout’s most recent book, „Nerds: Eine Popkulturgeschichte“ was published by C.H.Beck in January 2022. As a guest lecturer, she regularly teaches at various colleges and universities.
